Genital Herpes

Genital herpes is also known as the Herpes Virus Type II or Herpes Simplex Virus. It is a sexually transmitted disease that presents with blisters in the genital area. The blisters are usually in clusters, although they can appear alone.

Once someone gets genital herpes, they have the virus in them and cannot get rid of it. There are measures that someone can take, however, to keep the symptoms of the disease at bay.

One thing that you can do to stave off the symptoms of genital herpes is to keep your immune system healthy. You can do this by eating a healthy diet, not smoking and exercising. All of this will build up your immune system and can do wonders to prevent breakouts of genital herpes. Some people will get one breakout every year or so while others will get breakouts of the blisters that signify genital herpes more frequently.

There is medication that is available today that will reduce the number of breakouts that you can expect from genital herpes. If you are bothered by frequent breakouts of blisters, then you might want to take oral medication to stop this uncomfortable situation. This medication is prescribed by a doctor so you will have to talk to him or her about the condition and they will have to diagnose genital herpes. It is important to remember that you can still spread genital herpes to someone even if you do not have any of the symptoms.

If you do have the symptoms of genital herpes, you can see a doctor for a diagnosis. You should refrain from sexual activity while you have these symptoms and confide in your partner about your condition. If you get genital herpes, it takes about a week for the blisters to heal. There are ointments that you can get that can help the discomfort of the blisters. These ointments are available by prescription. You should not use any over the counter ointments for the blisters that are for other types of blisters.

While genital herpes can be uncomfortable, that is all that it is. It is not life threatening and can not do you any harm. It is, however, something that you should not keep hidden as you can spread genital herpes to others without having any of the signs. Chances are that you got genital herpes from someone who was not exhibiting any symptoms.

You will generally get genital herpes a few weeks after you have been exposed to the virus. After the initial outbreak, you might not get another outbreak for a long time or you might get one right away. No two people have the same reaction to genital herpes. If you have genital herpes, keep your immune system boosted and take a prescription for the outbreaks when they occur. If you have frequent outbreaks or are worried about spreading genital herpes to others, you can take medication that can help.
